A delicious chicken wrap made with juicy, flavorful green chutney chicken, fresh vegetables, and drizzled with generous amounts of cooling tzatziki sauce. It is amazing - the flavors all come together to make a quick & filling meal. Green chutney is made with cilantro and mint leaves and some warm spices. This a very healthy and delicious dinner idea.

ingredients
this wrap is another way I serve the green chutney chicken I make. [In the post where I shared the green chutney chicken recipe, I have shared a few other ways to serve the chicken]Once you have the chicken ready, this comes together in no time. You can make a quick lunch/dinner/meal out of it.
- Cooked green chutney chicken thighs
- Pita bread
- Lettuce leaves
- cucumber slices
- tomato slices
- onion slices
- arugula leaves
- tzatziki sauce
step by step instructions
prep work
- prepare green chutney chicken
- prepare tzatziki sauce
- wash & slice cucumbers, tomatoes. Peel and thinly slice onions
- Wash and pat dry arugula leaves
assembling the sandwich
- warm the pita bread on stovetop.
- place a lettuce leaf on it.
- top it with chicken, tomatoes, cucumber, onion and arugula leaves.
- drizzle tzatziki sauce.
- wrap and serve.
types of bread you can use to make the wrap/sandwich
- pita bread, slightly warmed on stovetop
- any hard crusted dinner roll or bread slice
- my sonshine likes it some toasted thick brioche bread slices
how to secure the wrap/sandwich
sandwiches and wraps can get a little messy to eat unless they are secured well to hold the fillings and toppings and sauces intact. This is what I do to secure the wrap/sandwich in place:
- if it's a wrap, once assembled, I "wrap" it in parchment paper or Aluminum foil to hold in place. This keeps your hands clean as well since you will have something to hold the sandwich/wrap with. You can even secure it with a small tie.
- For sandwiches, you can use a toothpick(s) to hold everything together. remember to discard them once done.
carrying in a lunch box
This makes a good lunch box staple. Let me show you how :).
Do not assemble the wrap in advance. Keep all the ingredients separate. At lunch assemble your sandwich and eat. This will prevent soggy wrap/sandwich.
If you have a bento box style lunch box, it will be very easy to pack this lunch.
Yet another tip I can suggest is to use whole lettuce leaves instead of chopped ones. Place the lettuce leaf on the bread before you place other toppings. The lettuce leaf will act as a barrier from juices making the bread soggy.
other toppings/recipe variations
this is like a fusion chicken gyro - chicken is served as a chicken gyro, but the spices used to prepare the chicken is Indian inspired. And you use the creamy tzatziki sauce just like you would in gyro. True fusion recipe :).
Here are some variations you can try with the recipe:
- Use whole-grain pita or bread instead of white bread.
- As mentioned earlier, a thick-sliced brioche tastes wonderful.
- you can shred or cut the cooked chicken into thinner strips if you prefer that way.
- instead of creating a wrap, cut the pita in half and make a green chutney chicken pita pocket.
- instead of tzatziki sauce, you can try a simple raitha. Make sure you use thick curds to prevent a runny sauce. Skip the slices of onions if your raitha has onions.
- I typically use cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions in my sandwich. This is a good way to include some salad greens as well. You can use some halved cherry tomatoes instead of sliced tomatoes.
- I like arugula with its slightly bitter-y, peppery kick. You can use spinach or any other leafy greens instead.
meal prep tip
a note on the time to get the pita wrap ready: the time mentioned in the recipe card is for assembling the wrap/sandwich. It will take about 1 hour 30 minutes to prepare the chicken(including marination time).
Meal planning tip: 1. prepare the chicken and the sauce ahead of time. Reheat on stovetop or oven just before assembling. 2. marinate the chicken and keep it ready. cook on the stovetop; this will add 15-20 minutes to the cooking time
