The Story...
This website is a team effort. Let me introduce the key players - me (the Mom), my husband (the Dad), and our son (the Sonshine). Mom has been browsing through several food blogs, cookery books and shows and wanted to start a website of her own - mostly to log her own kitchen experiments, goof ups and success stories.
Mom wanted to have a clear understanding of each person's duties w.r.t the site. This was to avoid conflicts later on. Having worked in software industry for about 10 years mom knew the way to go was to call for a meeting with the key players. The meeting invite was sent, received and accepted, had a little conference over the weekend and started the discussions. Here’s what happened next……
Minutes of the meeting:
The meeting was called to order by Mom at 10:00 AM.
In attendance
- Mom
- Dad
- Sonshine
Action
Mom announced that she is planning to work on a new food/recipes website and needs support from the members of the family. This was given a warm welcome and dad and Sonshine were happy to infer that they get to try new dishes. After the big round of applause and congratulations, mom suggested it was time to volunteer for the jobs, which was not as welcome as the idea itself. Dad & Sonshine kept avoiding the subject; but eventually, they noticed the fumes coming out of mom’s ears. They realized they had to do something before mom erupts into a volcano. Dad quickly brought in a proposal outlining the responsibilities of each member of the team as listed below. The responsibilities are listed in the order of easiest to toughest (according to Dad).
Mom:
- Researching on new recipes
- Trying out the best proportions and measurements
- Recording the recipe
- Logging the efforts on the website
- Deciding on the food props for pictures and getting food ready to be photographed
- Publicizing the website
Dad:
- Taking food pictures
- Tasting the food and critiquing it (and later devouring the food)
Sonshine:
- Second taster in the family (and later devouring the food depending on the hunger level)
- Dad's assistant while he is working on food photography
Close Family & Friends:
Please note that they were not present at the meeting, but are a crucial part of the team. They too have agreed to try, taste and critique the recipes. This was agreed upon by us, without their knowledge or consent. Thank you, guys. You know who you are. You guys ROCK!
Before mom could open her mouth, Dad and Sonshine high-fived and approved the responsibilities – a clear majority of 2 against 1. And the meeting was adjourned at 10:07 AM.
More about this website
As mentioned above, the website is a result of Mom’s need to record her trials with food. The experiments started once sonshine was born and mom quit her job. And boy! She was hooked to cooking. Mom is no expert in cooking, but she loves to cook and is still learning. She finds it therapeutic. And when the dishes are tasty - she hears "I LOVE YOU" from Dad. Well, Mom does NOT remember a time when Dad said that because she brought home a fat check when she was working. And trust me, when she says that she brought in the fat check more often than cook at home – It’s true. Ha!
Mom, is a Konkani married to Dad who is a Malayali. So, to a large extent, her cooking style is influenced by these two cuisines. But she often tries cuisines from other parts of the world. Mom experiments with recipes from different sources – TV food shows, Cook books, Magazines, Youtube videos, close & extended family & friends.
These recipes are tried and tested, over and over. Please feel free to try out the recipes you find here. Everybody’s taste is different. The measurements given are according to mom's taste preference. If you did not like something, adjust the recipe to suit your taste. Or, try another one from the site. After all, life is all about choices. But, please let Mom know your valuable feedback and suggestions.
Many of Mom’s friends had encouraged her to start a blog. A BIG THANKS to all of them.
Why the name Framed Recipes?
Mom is planning to record only those recipes which her family loves and most of these dishes have a story to tell. The story could be funny, happy, sad or might make you mad. Mom wanted to record these stories and if possible have a wall dedicated in her house to frame the stories and the recipes. But lack of real estate made mom look else where to hang these framed recipes. Hence the name.
Now, the legalese.... 🙂
Please do not reproduce any text (verbatim) from the site. These are Mom’s experiences and her experiments. They cannot be yours even if you are her twin (and she does not have a twin). If you enjoyed a recipe from this site, and would like to share it in your website, please consider giving the credit and provide a link back to this website. You cannot use the photographs from the site for commercial or non-commercial purpose without Mom’s permission. If you do so, you will get into Mom’s blacklisted-people-list and you would not like that.

Long Sabbatical
I took a sabbatical from blogging for a couple of years. I had started working full time and my husband started travelling for work and it was just hectic to shoot and blog while maintaining a full time job! For the sake of sanity and well being, we had to make a hard choice - to put blogging in the back burner for now. But we have put in so much effort to bring it the level that it was, that we did not shut it all down.
Back to Blogging!
Looks like this blog is my constant!
During the Covid crisis of early 2020, I found myself back at home, just tending to my house related work and IT jobs far and few! I was creating a storm in my kitchen with the limited resources that was available in the grocery store and with a gentle nudge from a friend , we decided to get back to blogging!
So, here we are almost towards the end of 2020 and we have made so much progress at Framed Recipes. We have started doing recipe videos so that it becomes easier for our readers to follow the recipes. We try to share as much as possible about a recipe so that you will enjoy it as much as we do by recreating it at home. These are simple recipes that I make for my family (to which I add a ton of love - try it! That seems to be the secret ingredient) and this blog serves as a reminder and a recipe collection for my Sonshine.
