Many recipes call for blanched tomatoes. This is a skill that can be easily learnt. Blanching tomatoes helps you peel the skin easily.This is a pictorial to learn how to blanch tomatoes.
You Will Need:
- Large Pot
- Serrated Knife
- Chopping Board (Optional)
- Slotted Spoon
- Pairing Knife
Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a rapid boil.
Wash the tomatoes that you want to blanch. Using a serrated knife mark a shallow "X" on the bottom of the tomato.
Once the water comes to rapid boil, turn off the heat. Slowly immerse the tomatoes to be blanched into the water.
Wait for about a minute or till you see the skin peeling off, remove the tomatoes gently from the water using a slotted spoon.
Place the tomatoes on a chopping board/tray and let them cool down a bit so that you can handle them with your hands.
Using a paring knife, gently peel off the skin. The blanched tomatoes are ready to be used in your recipes.
